Hong Kong 2014 Day 1

We had waited for this Hong Kong Trip for almost a year. We had booked the Jetstar air tickets during the 1-for-1 promotion one year back.

I woke up at 5.00am on 04 Mar 2014 to get ready and met Amy at Changi Airport at 7.30am. After shopping at the DFS, we sat down at the nearest coffeebean for breakfast.

We reached Hong Kong around 1pm. Immediately after customs clearance, we went to purchase a pre-paid card at this shop called Nobletime Av & Telecom (shop 5T196, HK Int'l Airport). It cost us HKD288 for 7 days of unlimited data access. After that, we took a cab from the Airport to Langham Place Hotel at Mongkok.

On the way to Langham Place Hotel

We seemed to be fated to number 23. We boarded our plane at Gate C23 and now our Hotel Room is 23 also.

The moment I stepped out of the Hotel, I was like "wow, so cooling". I didn't want to waste any moment to enjoy the coolness hence I did not wear the long-sleeve cardigan.

Our first stop was to eat my favourite congee at
富記粥品
(104-106 Fa Yuen St Market, Mong Kok, Hong Kong 旺角花園街104-106號)

(We actually used the google map to locate almost all the places that we went in Hong Kong and it was super helpful.)

I didn't quite like the place. The waiter wasn't very friendly. Ok, not friendly, nevermind because it's their culture. But I was still shocked when I saw the dirty oily spoon. Anyway, I also dared not asked him to change for a new set, so accept it lor.

燒鵝 roasted goose

I ordered for pork liver and fish congee.

We want to order the roasted duck but was sold out, hence we ordered roasted goose instead. It was really very oily, I feel so sinful after eating.

After eating, we went to Admiralty MTR to look for the bus to go to the Prada/Miu Miu Factory outlet. However, we didn't manage to find the bus stop, hence, we just walked around at the shopping mall just above Admiralty MTR (I think it's called Queensway Plaza).

Facial mask vending machine caught our attention.

Then, we decided we should make a move to the Victoria Peak. I could not remember if there was any taxi stand at the shopping mall, but we just walked out from the mall hoping to get a cab. However, to our disappointment, there wasn't any available taxi on the road. *Panic* No taxi then how to go to the Peak.

Just then, there was a bus that caught our attention. "Bus 15-山頂"!!! Really felt so blessed!!! In Hong Kong, their bus stops seemed to be "scattered" along the road, so we have to make sure we are waiting at the correct bus stop. The fare to go to the Peak was only HK$9.80, CHEAP!!!

Selfie on Bus 15

I was shocked when Amy told me Bus 15 actually brought us up to the Peak. Bus 15 is a double decker bus lei, how to go uphill...must be very scary lor...pray hard. Lucky the journey wasn't as scary as I thought. We saw a lot of rich people's houses...envy!!! The bus ended the journey the terminus which was near to the Peak shopping mall.

Initially, I wanted to treat Amy to Bubba Gump Shrimp Co Restaurant & Market as her birthday treat. But I could not remember why we ended up going to Spaghetti 360. The restaurant looked like the food will cost us a bomb, but a closer look at the menu, the price was quite reasonable. So we settled our dinner there.

The dinner cost me only HK$254.10 (around S$42.00). It was really very cheap for the nice food and the ambience (we were the only 2 customers in the restaurant).

Outside the Peak Galleria : Raining plus Floggy weather.

After dinner, we proceed to our next destination, Madame Tussauds Hong Kong!!! We bought their Online Late Saver @HK$173(Gate Price HK$225), i.e. we SAVED over 20% discount for entry after 8pm. At first I thought we should go for the Super Late Saver (Online Price HK$113, last admission : 9.45pm), but Amy had concerned on the safety for going back too late.

Actually, we completed the tour at Madame Tussauds in less than an hour. We took a tram down to the lower terminus which cost us HK$28 per trip. We used the google map to bring us to the Central MTR...actually its really not very far. Thank you to the cooling weather for the pleasant journey.

We took MTR from Central to Mongkok Station. We went to 打包許留山 dessert back to our Hotel room to enjoy. Very nice!!!

End of Day 1 in Hong Kong.
